My Story

Hey guys (and gals)!

Welcome to Nick Exposed! Im Nick Mayo and I wanted to take a second to share a bit about myself and this blog, in hopes of helping you better relate to what Im doing.

Nick:
I’m a man of many hats!! I’ve been called a Project Manager, a Web Designer, Graphic Designer, Creative Director, Marketing Consultant, Convicted Felon (kidding), a Magician (not kidding), as of recently an Amateur Photographer as well as a few names Id rather not mention… But what I think it all boils down to is Im simply a Creative, and a student of Life!! I love to create things, whether it be a tangible design/piece of art or a memorable experience (especially with theΒ CharityΒ I strongly associate myself with), I just love bringing value to the world.

I currently run Avenue52, which is my personal Creative Studio. I made the switch over to my passion for art and design Jan of 2010 and have loved every minute of it since.
I not only have a background in Design/Arts but also in management, marketing and public speaking and love the instructional and motivational side of things as well, which is probably apparent in my Nicks Thoughts section of the site.
My biggest education source is LIFE!! I often times put myself out there with large opportunities to fail horribly, but because of it I often find levels of success I never even imagined.
Nick Exposed:
The idea for this site started as a small seed at the end of summer in 2011. I was inspired by the idea of challenging myself to create something new every single day of the year. After thinking long and hard on what I wanted my creative creations to be I decided I would pursue another passion of mine that I have unfortunately neglected in the past, which is photography. Like I said before I consider myself simply a Creative, Im not sure if designer or photographer fit as well as this title. However I am passionate in both as well as multiple other forms of art and creativity.
I realized this last year that there was a void in my life that needed to be filled. That void was personal creative expression, and although I have acquired clients for my graphic design that allow for my creative input on our design projects, I realized I needed to create for myself at the same time. I strongly believe in the power of creative thinking and its a topic I speak about to a wide variety of people, yet at the same time I was also lacking my own creative expression in my personal life. So I decided to make a decision to make self expressed works of art a daily goal and challenge. And so we now have this wonderful blog I call home to my creative expression.
As stated above one of my other great passions is in motivation and personal growth. Last year I had started a blog titled “As told by Nick”, which was a collection of my thoughts on life and business. I decided to combine the two blogs and just have one big exposure to what inspires, motivates and captivates me, and along came “Nick Exposed”.
As the title suggests, I am exposing my thoughts to the world for both positive and negative criticism and vice versa. I look to open the door to what inspires me personally as well as in my business so that others can have access to the same information. I look forward to sharing reviews on products, books, coaching as well as offering words and wisdom from my mentors and the people I choose to surround myself with to move me towards success.
Im pretty confident you will find value in what I have to share and would love to have you along for the Journey! Be sure to follow the blog and keep up on the latest!
Also never hesitate to post your comments! I look forward to what you have to say and am completely open to what others have to share πŸ™‚
Thanks,
Nick Mayo

  1. Hey Nick. Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I too wear many hats in the creative world. I’ve been a graphic designer forever, but love to make things with my hands, so I craft. But I’m absolutely, without a doubt, in love with the creative process. You know, taking an idea, a mere thought from it’s inception in my mind and giving it shape and molding it into something that matters. Anyway, great blog so far. Amazing photos, too! I’m following you now. Can’t wait to see your endeavors take shape!

  2. Very interesting blog. You’re a talented photographer.

  3. Cool! Congrats on fulfilling your creative pursuits! Thanks for visiting my blog – I’m excited to see your daily photos – I did a daily photo blog for a year starting April 2010, ending April 2011 and I consider it one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. You’ll find that stuff on my blog as well if you go back a bit. πŸ™‚ Nice to “meet” you and good luck!

Nick, I have nominated you for a Versatile Blogger award, because I have been so impressed your photos (a nice break from politics and science for me). Therefore, if you choose to accept the Award (or you can just decline this light-hearted nonsense and delete this comment), there are a few things you are required to do:

    — Create a new post on your blog with the Award logo at the top/centre.
    — Thank the one who nominated you.
    — Nominate 12 to 15 other bloggers.
    — Share 7 random facts about yourself.
    — Inform each nominee.
    — Add a thumbnail of the Award logo to your Home Page (optional)

Accordingly, after 03:02 hrs GMT on Wednesday 8 February 2012, you will be able to see what I said about you and/or your blog in my post in which you are nominated at…

    Nick,

Thanks for the “Like” on the Edward Stapel interview over at Compass Rose. I’m the associate editor over there, but the founder & executive producer here at Extract(s). We’re about to launch and have a feature we’re calling Haiku that I’d like to invite you to check out. Basically you’d be submitting original photos with original haiku as the caption. We’re still slightly “under construction,” but the submission manager is live.

Hope to see some (more) of your work soon!

    • Thanks Carla, what a great compliment! I have found over the years that the ability to communicate well is a great skill to acquire so Im grateful you have pointed that out πŸ™‚ And yes blogging is a fantastic way of being creative everyday! Thanks for swinging by… get it.. swinging, because your post was on monkeys today. Sorry I couldn’t resist.

  35. Thanks for checking out my blog. Hope you enjoyed it.

  36. Great images here Nick. I wish I had half your imagination and drive to do a photo a day post on my blog. I think I would make it about a week before I ran out of ideas. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect every photo to be good. I mean who has the creativity to come up with not just a photo, but a good photo, every day? Well, it appears you are the person with that amount of creativity.

    • Your too kind Jeff, but I do appreciate the compliments. Its definitely a challenge to say the least, but its fun, it stretches me, and at the end of the year I know my photography will be at a completely different level! Im excited for the journey, and look forward to meeting sincere people like yourself along the way πŸ™‚

  37. Welcome Nick to my blog. Thank you for choosing to follow it. I hope you find it informative, encouraging, inspirational and my amateur photography enjoyable.

Nick – thanks for following my blog…. I’m a career swapper who came to photography after 20 years in ‘corporate’- miss that like a hole in the head.. Just getting back into weekly blogging, something I started from my hospital bed when going through cancer a second time in 2010… now it’s a combination of photography with the occasional cancer fundraising bulletin as I’m off to Nepal later this year fundraising for the hospital that saved my life….
    Keep blogging, Keith

  69. THANKS, Nick, for subscribing to my “pun-ny” photoblog! I hope I can bring you a smile (or at least a groan) every weekday! On the eve of my 60th birthday I wrote the following:
    —————————–
    My Statement of Purpose

I want my life to count. I aspire to reach the highest level of achievement my talents will allow. I seek to know God and, if possible, to know and do His will, as that must be the highest level of achievement.

While I seek this knowledge, I will push the limits of my creativity to bring beauty, laughter, and comfort into the world.

I decide this day to focus on what I can achieve in the days, months, or years I have left. I put myself on notice that time is short and talents fade.

It is time. It is time. It is time.

    –John Arthur Robinson

The following year I self-published a book and that same year, on Nov. 1, 2010, I began my my Mon.-Fri. photoblog. (I have never missed a weekday post!)
