Reflections
Downtown was absolutely gorgeous today, however the wind was sharp as a knife! I mean it was COLD with a capital C..O..L..D. With gloves on, my fingers still froze over enough I couldn’t hit the shutter any more. My girlfriend and I made it around a single block before deciding to head back to the car. Luckily there was still plenty of unique surroundings in the single block to be captured through the lens.
What I love about this scene is that each window had its own radically different perspective on the building across the street. They each see the building in their own unique way and boldly express it to the rest of the world. This is much like the viewers that come through this blog on a daily basis (THATS YOU!!! :). Everyone experiences art and photography in their own unique way. I absolutely love reading the comments and thoughts (keep em coming!!) that are posted about each photo, because I love experiencing my creative expressions through the eye’s of my visitor. Thats the beauty of art, how one person experiences the piece is sometimes drastically different than the next person, and thats 100% ok. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to Art, just multiple experiences. Imagine how bland the world would be if we had no creative vision.. So like the windows above, boldly share your perception of the world!
Wow.
This is a great reflection … also like the architecture of the building the glass is reflecting. Looks like a beautiful day despite the COLD!! 🙂
Thanks Becca!! I agree, I love the detail of architecture in the building across the street, I did get some shots of the building itself, but much more fun seeing the distorted reflections 🙂
Reblogged this on Basil Wheel.
Thanks for the Reblog!
Awesome blog, Nick. You’re a talented photographer. ( I really love the bus stop pic and the one of your girlfriend sticking out her tongue in the snow!) And I’ve been sucked in while trying to get ready for work! Cheers for following my London blog as well.
Thanks Stephanie!! 🙂
Very cool, slightly crooked, jigsaw straight down line!
Thanks Brad!
Very well expressed thoughts on blogging, art, visitors and comments as well as a great photo.
Thanks Sally 🙂 Im glad you liked it!

Thanks Naphz!!
Very cool!
Thanks Inga!
Amazing reflections you captured. Fascinated. Thank you, with my love, nia
Thanks Nia
Great pic – not something you see every day! Given the weather conditions you described it looks almost like the wind blew a few of those glass panes out of focus. 😉
Well put Jacs!
I know what you mean it has been cold here too, I just do not have the energy to get out to get some photos maybe today. I love this shot beautiful reflection.
Yea the cold makes it difficult to go on my long photo walks that I enjoy so much! Thanks for you kind words!
Superb
Thanks Dave!
Nice work today Nick, question about your shutter speed. I notice on some of your still shots you are using a crazy fast shutter speed. On your still shot of the blue building you use a much slower speed (compared to this one). Why use a very fast speed for a object at rest? Does it pick up more detail or does it keep the light out more?
That’s a good question Dan! It depends on my setting, when I doing street photography downtown I like to have a faster shutter speed to catch action on the fly while hand holding. You never know when something is going to pop up only for a split second, so it helps to have a shutter speed to be able to capture these kind of things. So when Im walking around I typically don’t mess with the settings after finding a good sweet spot for how busy the town seems to be. As far as the blue wall, I was in a slower more run down part of town so I could get more creative with my settings, it was also starting to get darker around the time of the picture so a bit slower shutter was in need. Hope that answers your question 🙂 Thanks for asking!
Stunning photo.
I love the slight distortion in each pane of glass, each one is almost a miniature photograph in its own right.
Well spotted my friend.
Dave
Thanks Dave! Well put! 🙂
True art. That’s what that picture is.
Thanks Lorre! I appreciate that!
Love this one. I always enjoy how buildings can be the framing for a subject. I have a similar photo on my blog 🙂
Thanks James! Ill have to see if I can find your pic 🙂
Great photos, Nick. And thanks for liking mine too :=)
-Joseph
Thanks Joseph!!

cheers for the follow nick. this photo is stunning, loving the sharpness of this shot.
Thanks Ben!!
Beautiful! I love reflection photos – have a very similar one I took here in Albuquerque (actually I have many, but one in particular is very much like this.)
Thanks Michelle! I’ll have to search your blog and see if you have it posted.
Actually I have not, but I that’s a good idea of several reflections I can post on my photo blog motleyphotosDOTnet. I haven’t posted on that one for a while, so I do need to show it some love…
I love this photo and how it captures the old and the new at the same time.
Thanks Laurie! I didn’t quit think of that, thanks for pointing it out! Exactly my point too on how we all see things slightly different!
This reflection is very clear.
Nicely captured Nick.
Thanks Pablo!
Brilliant shot! Am enjoying your blog immensely!
Nice work. I think it is fun to try to look at things a bit differently than everyone else. Keep following your “eye” to new visions.
Haha I will do! Thanks Doug 🙂
I often have a hard time photographing reflections, but you’ve captured this beautifully – an interesting composition, good colors, everything is just right. Beautiful shot, and I look forward to seeing more of your work!
Thanks Bradley! I appreciate your multiple compliments!
This is a fantastic shot. I love the way the older building is reflected in what appears to be a sleek new modern one, and the distortion in the reflection gives tension to the shot. It is more than just a photo that draws your eye for a moment. There is something in it’s totality that holds one’s attention.
Hey J! Thanks so much for your very thoughtful reply!!
Love the distortion, the reflection is just perfect…great shot
Thanks so much 🙂
This is a great photo!!
Thanks for visiting… 😀

Hey thanks Robyn 🙂
Nick… I am looking to buy a nice macros lens shortly. I want to see the hair on a fly. I have a Rebel t2i… any recommendations? Thanks!
Hey Michelle! I wish I had a great recommendation on which lens to buy, but unfortunately I don’t. However I do know that Canon makes two beautifully crafted macro lenses and you can see a comparison between the two here. By the way this youtube channel has some hilarious but highly educational vids on photography. And although I may not have a great answer on what lens you should buy, I do have a suggestion on one you shouldn’t. Haha. And thats the one I have. I have a 70-300 4-5.6 Quantaray (which is a rebadged Tamron 70-300 macro). The macro engages at 180-300 and is a 1:2 max macro ratio. So much is wrong with this lens, its lens crepes when shooting at a slight downward angle, the auto focus jumps like its hoped up on coke, theres no image stabilizing, and it just feels plasticy all around. The only time I would suggest getting it is if you do as I did and bought it off craigslist for 20 bucks. Came with a lens hood and promaster UV filter too haha. Im a sucker for cheap photography finds on craigslist. Hope this helps 🙂
Thanks for the vid! OMG… I tripped when he started pouring water on the camera. Made me want to hug and protect mine from that villain! I will check out more vid’s… thanks so much!
Haha, yea they put some cameras through some crazy tests, but it gets the point across. I always get a kick out of their vids, they are border line inappropriate at times but the host does it with a british accent so its all good haha.
I love this image and I love the words you wrote to go with it. Great post.
Thanks Again 🙂
