  • great – now what is it? sculpture?

    • Hahaha, I wondered how many people would make this comment. Unfortunately I was super tired late last night when I posted this, but I will be updating with the story behind today. But yes it is a sculpted piece of art by Alexander Calder. Thanks :)

  • I immediately recognized that as a Calder because I used to live not far away in Big Rapids! Was that taken recently, with the leaves of the trees already out?

    • Hey John, good eye. Yea the piece obviously has been shot to death being one of the staples of Grand Rapids, so I wanted to shoot it in a way I hadnt seen before. And yes it was shot on Saturday so the trees are fully clothed :) Thanks for swinging by!

  • Terrific composition of a large work of public art. Do you know the name of the artist? Thanks, Sally

    • I do know the name! This sculpture was a piece done by Alexander Calder, its actually used as a logo for our city its so popular out here. Thanks for the comment and question Sally :)

      • I am a fan of his work, yet never have seen this piece. Where is it located; that is, where are you? Thanks, Sally

  • Very nice capture!

  • Me gusta!

  • Great perspective Nick…Is the sculpture by Alexander Calder? Reminds me of the “Man” sculpture by him here in Montreal that he did for the 1967 World Trade Fair.

    • Hey Martin, you are absolutely correct sir! I will have to look up the “Man” Sculpture. Our city actually adapted this as its logo and is well known as a staple of the town. How well has his “Man” sculpture been received out there? Thanks again :)

      • The “Man” hasn’t made it to city logo status here but is a well known landmark for those that make it to the Parc Jeanne-Drapeau island – particularly since it’s the location of the summer long Piknic Electronik festival.

I don’t normally post links to my own blog on other people’s blogs, but I posted some pics of Calder’s Montreal sculpture (together with other 1967 World Trade Fair sculptures) in March – I think you will see the similarity…

        • WOW you guys have some FANTASTIC sculptures out there!! No worries about posting links, I actually prefer people share their work with my audience both in the comments and on the facebook page! It cant be a creative community if its only me posting ;) Thanks for sharing Martin

  • Great photo!! I love metal….

  • Nice photograph of an interesting sculpture.

  • very nice photo.

  • Great color capture

  • Oh WOW!! How cool!!

    • haha I love this comment Cee :) Thank you

  • I really like the composition of the photo and how the curves and colors play off of each other. It’s one thing to see the structure as a whole, but it’s another to be able to see it at a different aspect.
