I owe this shot to my friend Kelly, if it weren’t for his scouting eye I would have walked past this scene, leaving it unnoticed, as I answered an incoming call during our photowalk today. Thats the beauty of enjoying the company of friends during the days photographic adventures, you always have a backup set of eyes Thanks Man!
Another unusual vehicle to add to my collection of auto images! This mini bus has been painted and repainted so many times throughout my life span. Its owned by a auto collision repair center just down the street from where I grew up, and every few years they give it a fresh coat of paint in hopes of luring newcomers through their door. This is the most extravagant paint job that I recall it having in all the times I have seen it, and probably the most suiting coat for the vehicle.
Short. Simple. To the point
More pics to add to my exploration of primary colors.
So, I often get asked… ” Hey! Mr. Photo Man I bet you have a lot of photo taker apps on your touchy telephone don’t you?.. DONT YOU?!?” (I guess I have a lot of conversations with enraged drunks). So I thought I would break down the 4 photog apps that I currently have and use on my iphone, only 2 of which are actual photo editing apps, and you can do with it as you like. So here it is… I now bring you:

As you can probably tell by some of my more recent posts, I’ve had a weird renewed fascination with bold primary colors lately. Its probably the longing for summer that is coming out in my photography, but whatever it is I really don’t mind it. According to Jay Maisel there are 3 things to capture in a photo: Color, Light and Gesture. Although I obviously keep an open mind to allowing any of them catch my eye, I find that I jump from focusing on one to another as weeks go past, and eventually make my way back through each. For a while I will focus on light, searching for unique shadows and reflections, capturing different times of the day. Then there are periods where I try to capture beautifully candid gestures from people and things. Then times like now its almost a scavenger hunt in a way to find color combinations that evoke certain emotions. Thats the beauty with art, its flexible and you can play these kinds of games if you would like.
What kinds of games do you guys play while out shooting?
It’s inevitable, there are going to be times where you get caught shooting, and when that happens chances are you will get “The Look”. While this may intimidate some, it inspires others… like me… why not make a mini collection out of it haha.
I’ve said in the past that I truly try to respect people, and though I tend to get in close for some pics I try not to invade to much of peoples comfort zone. Yet, there are still times when I get caught and get some nasty looks. After getting my shot I always smile, give a wave or thumbs up letting them know Im working in their favor trying to make them look good. I haven’t been punched in the face yet, however there were times while in Chicago that I thought it could likely happen. But hey I gotta get the shot Continue reading
Bikes and Bikes and Bikes oh my!!!
I love seeing so many bikes downtown, I myself try to keep things as eco friendly as possible and love the idea of biking places. When I lived in Virginia I had just a bike for transportation for a few months. Would bike an average of 30 miles a day and absolutely loved it. Actually as I started uploading the pics for this post I decided to jump on mine and bike around for a bit. Continue reading
“Working out back”
Boy do I have a good deal of work ahead of me in order to catch up on posts haha. This has been a repeating trend over the last few weeks, but it looks like I will be back on schedule now as travel has settled down for the next few months and work should be back to a steady pace. Its all part of the adventure right
Here is a brief series from last weeks shooting before I took off for Chicago. Enjoy! Continue reading
“After a long days work”
One of the tricks I like to do in order to spice up the daily photo walk and keep it fresh is to shoot themed mini series for the day. Its amazing once you think about it at how many opportunities there are to shoot one idea in multiple ways, whether it be geometry, color, composition based there are endless possibilities that will push your creative observation to the next level. This Saturday a good friend of mine and I took a day trip out to Kalamazoo, a city a little over an hour away from our town of Grand Rapids. The idea was to tour an area that was completely unfamiliar to either one of us, without the use of maps or gps, just relying on our instincts to guide us to and through the town as we embarked on this adventurous day. Continue reading
