Nothing reminds me of my days back in VA Beach like PBR and sand between the toes!
I feel at home on the beach, and even more so when the camera is between my paws! Now that summer is really setting in (high 90′s this week) I’ve been getting the urge to just chillax on the beach and get my tan on. I miss the days when I could just walk out the back door hit sand and peer out over the ocean! Don’t get me wrong, Michigan definitely has its perks (like the live blues concert put on mid city every Wednesday night. The band killed it tonight!), but I would still say Im a beach boy at heart.
As we walked along the squeaking sand of Lake Michigan, we happened to come across these flipped cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, which coincidentally was often our beer of choice back in VA given its price. Ill admit the year I lived out there turned out to be more like one long party than anything else, dont worry we were responsible adults… most of the time!
Us 5 beach boys living within 20 feet of each other, with one big open door policy living under a kind of whats yours is mine brotherly code. We lived life to its fullest ever day with frisbee and football on the beach, kayaking, rock climbing, my miles and miles of biking I put in each day, sailing and partying, it was every 23 year olds dream haha. My days were either spent in my home office overlooking the ocean or out in the hammock taking in the days sun. Ahh the life!
I still live life to its fullest each and every day, the only difference is I do it through my passion for photography and get to share it with the coolest photography network and community around!! Beach friends are great, and I still try to keep in touch with the guys now a year later, but a world wide network of peeps who share a similar passion… Now thats something to get excited about. I have been so humbled and excited with the response Ive gotten from the website, photos, and community projects over the last 6 months.
I know it may seem like Ive been slacking, hell maybe youve thought that ive retired out to the beach for the rest of the summer, but I promise I have plenty of things in the works behind the scenes, while still juggling all my work positions. Shooting film this month hasnt really allowed me the ability to post as many pictures as I would like, but the rolls have been sent in to be processed and pics are soon to come!
Also, Im getting a TON of emails asking when the shirts are going to be available.. The only answer I can give right now is as soon as I possibly can!! Im SUPER excited to get these thing out there for you guys to pic up, and have now added 2 new designs to the list as well. Theys are HOT HOT HOT!!
Btw if you havent seen our latest collab project… get your photo taking ass over to the Details Page and check it out. We want you.. your friends… your friends friends and your dog to join in on this thing!! Seriously!! The first person to have their dog participate in the project (as Fido taking a pic… will need photo proof) will get a special prize!! Honest to God!
If only I had a dog to strap a camera to…
Nice picture and interesting post Nick, glad to see you’re still chillaxing with the best of them.
Quick thing though administration-wise, since this site isn’t directly connected to WordPress’ main site (where we log in and have our own wordpress-owned blog), when we see your post, we can’t like it, nor can we get personal notifications in our feed. That’s why I don’t hardly ever get to responding to responses from you on my comments (making me comment less), as I don’t want to sign up for follow-up comments via e-mail, getting notified by every person’s note.
Any way you may be able to get your site integrated with WordPress again somehow?
Thats a good question Matt. Ive been looking into it quite a bit lately trying to get wordpress.org to work with all my wordpress.com followers. I may just have to send an email to the WordPress support team. Im sure there has to be a way to get them all to work together. Thanks for bringing it to my attention bud!
Great shot, Nick!!
Thanks Santi!
I must admit I’m with Matthew Durr on this one, the new site is pretty but integration with wordpress.com would be beneficial
Thanks for the input Rob! Im definitely checking into a solution.
Are the beer cans on a dune in Holland State Park? I’ve been here in Grand Rapids since Saturday, still struggling with jet lag, the hot weather and the fact that there is hardly any chance for street photography (East GR: squirrels, chipmunks and runners). We’re leaving for Maine today so I hope I’ll come back with lots of photos.
At a smaller beach about a mile north of Holland State Park
Last night would have been a great opportunity for you to get some street shots. Center of town was packed full of blues lovers, bikers, homemade musicians and much more. Enjoy Maine, I look forward to seeing the photos you come back with! Thanks Cornelia
You miss your days at the beach like I miss my days sailing!! There’s something about the sun and the wind and the smell of the water that just does the soul good
. Oh, the memories!!
Agreed Cindy!! Its hard to be anything but happy on the beach
Nice shot…
Thanks Jake

Great shot, I’ve been without beer for 26 days now, but back on dry land and off to find a bar.
