My Active Mind

As I lay here in bed, my mind wont let me sleep
so much running between these two ears
Its incredible to think about where we are these days

What did we do before google?
Before youtube?
Before the internet in general?
How did we learn anything?

I feel like we have the world at our fingertips
and I also feel that’s a major part of what keeps me up at night
the idea of knowing I can learn anything
I can do anything

I ask one question and it leads to two more
which then multiplies even further
I have an incredible thirst for knowledge

I wonder if minds where this active years ago?
Did people feel as empowered as we feel these days

With so many resources at the touch of a button
Most of which are available on the devices we carry in our pockets
Excuses are especially invalid these days
There’s no reason for people not to be pursuing their passion and dreams

Its an excitingly possible world out there
Which ironically makes it even more impossible for me to fall asleep

Abandoned Mongoose

If you haven’t figured it out by now… I love bikes!! (In fact my main mode of transportation is by bike! Why drive when you can bike.. very eco friendly and has infinite gas mileage ;) )

My love for bikes definitely spills over into my photography quite often. I have a feeling that eventually I will come out with a coffee table book or something documenting the hundreds of bike shots Im bound to acquire. Continue reading →

Primary Trash

I cant help but love coming across these primaries grouped together! Its so suiting that when I do, Im like a kid again running around collecting shots from all sorts of angles.

This particular shot is out back a restaurant, and it just so happened that there were a few employees out back taking a smoke break. Needless to say they were giving me a strange look, as Im sure they wondered what I found so fascinating with their trash bin. lol

Cover Perspective

Im always on the lookout for unique ways to display everyday objects. Some times that means just capturing a portion of the subject to give it more of an abstract feel. When I can mix various shapes and texture into the scenes, its all the better.

Personally I enjoy these high contrast abstract shots. They are meant to make the mind search to recognize what it may be when initially observed, and at times leave some space for the imagination to wander.

From Beginning To End

Its been a while since Ive photographed my lovely Cutco flatware. I wanted to see how well the iphone would do to help me create one of my black and white pieces that I love to do of this wonderful product. Id say it held up to the challenge quite well :)

By the way we’ve noticed that the comment section on the site appears to be broken momentarily. I apologize to everyone who has tried to leave comments on the last couple of post but couldn’t. We are currently working on a solution, however in the mean time feel free to give it a shot again, as we wont know when its fixed until comments start coming through again haha.

Thanks for all of your patience as we iron out the kinks on the still warm out of the oven site design.

Lengthy Lighthouse

I’ve done a lot with Long Exposure in the past using my Canon, and typically feel quite comfortable with the idea, squeaking as much creativity out of the technique as I can at the time. However being stuck (not a bad thing by the way) with my iPhone as my main camera over the last couple weeks definitely proved to be a bit challenging, as I searched through the limited apps available frivolously spending money here and there trying to find the one that would give me the most pleasing results. Tools of a Craftsman

As I eagerly await the arrival of my new dslr, I cant help but get a bit antsy! So tonight, with my digital beauty on my mind, I went over past photos to see what gems I may have missed the first time through.

My mind was quickly distracted from the continuous thoughts of photog gear, when I started going through the pics I took of my grandfathers workshop back on Mothers Day. As I mentioned in my post Grandpa’s Workshop, my grandfather had passed away a few years ago, however his workshop has remained in tact, the way he left it, ever since. I took the opportunity of being at grandmas, to grab some shots of a sort of creative portrait into the working mind of gramps. Exploring the workspace and tools left behind, that he invested so much time into, really allowed me to appreciate how truly creative he was (Which thank god was passed down through the generations :D )! Everything has its place, and most of everything is either hand crafted and or recycled materials from past projects and workshops, and although I may have the Mayo creativity running through these veins, I still look at some of his creations and wonder… How the hell did he come up with that!! haha

So yet another tribute picture to a extraordinary man, and a great inspiration!

Catching Up

“Love Photography”

Yes yes I am still alive :)

Ive been getting a handful of concerned emails, asking why there havent been any posts this last week. The beautiful thing about BIG goals, is the BIG obstacles that come with. Well… those pesky obstacles are beginning to arrive, like unwanted guests around the holidays, starting with the back end of the site going down preventing me from posting our awesome articles and pics. Luckily wordpress got everything handled just in time for all the submissions for this months Photo Project to come in, so we will have the gallery and extra writeups up within the week!!

If youve been following along you probably know that I have been doing all of my recent shooting on my iPhone, as Im in the midst of upgrading to a new DSLR (Hopefully it will be in at somepoint this week!!). Typically when shooting with the iPhone, I treat it as a regular camera and, 9 times out of 10, I will import my images into Lightroom to process as a part of my regular workflow. Well this time, an unusual situation called for some unusual creativity!

I wanted to do all editing for these on my phone itself, which on most occasions I avoid going for the overly processed, grungy, texture filled photos that is so synonymous with all the photo apps that are saturating the phonetography market these days. However, like Joe McNally says “I never do anything 100% of the time”, or in this case never not do anything. I had overlooked the possibilities of making some sincerely unique and abstract images with the tools I have at hand with the iPhone.

So I now bring you a small compilation of some of the unique, and abstract in some cases, images from my recent iphone editing sessions. All editing was done in my all time fav iPhone photog app Snapseed with a few of the images taken through a instagram filter as the final step.
